Sara Martin, M.A. CCC – SLP
I am a speech-language pathologist who helps patients improve their quality of life through better communication.
I holds my national certification through the American Speech-Language-Hearing Association. I earned my master’s degree in speech-language pathology from Eastern Michigan University and have worked with adults and children.
I launched my private practice, Speech With Sara LLC, in June 2016.
Previously, I worked with students in Detroit Public Schools ranging in age from preschoolers through age 20. Speech-Language Pathology is a second career for me, after spending more than a decade as a journalist in daily newspapers and later in web-based media. I earned her bachelor’s degree in Journalism from Bowling Green State University.
Intervention at Speech With Sara LLC is done with parents and families in mind. Comprehensive evaluation provides valuable information about areas of need for patients and goals are established in conjunction with the family. In addition to one-on-one therapy, carryover work is assigned to help effect change with children as quickly as possible.
Evidence-based practice methods are a focus. I am continually seeking out professional development/continuing education to further her knowledge as well as stay up-to-date on the most recent research. I have been a four time recipient of the ASHA ACE Award for exceeding necessary continuing education hours for certification maintenance requirements.
I am certified in Hanen Centre’s It Takes Two to Talk and More Than Words programs; trained in the Lively Letters program; and trained in orofacial myofunctional therapy.
Additionally, I am a member of the Michigan Speech Language Hearing Association, The Family Center of Grosse Pointe and Harper Woods Association of Professionals, the International Association of Orofacial Myology and the Grosse Pointe Chamber of Commerce.
On the personal side, I am a mom, which keeps me busy. I also have two dogs and love the outdoors.
