I am flattered and humbled to have been asked to put on a presentation for the Family Center of Grosse Pointe & Harper Woods. I’m excited to share my knowledge about an area that I’m passionate about: speech-sound disorders and the impact they can have upon reading acquisition.
My presentation– Don’t Let the Cuteness Factor Trick You: Speech & Reading Skills in Children— is scheduled for Wednesday April 18, 2018, at 7 p.m. The presentation will be in conjunction with another business: Brainspring Learning Centers.
We will discuss the age at which speech sounds are acquired, how a fuzzy representation of the phonological system can hinder reading acquisition and how to identify when to seek help from a professional. We will also share strategies of how to help children both with speech-sound development and reading acquisition and growth.
I was lucky enough to get to visit Podcast Detroit (located in Royal Oak actually) earlier this year to record a preview of our presentation. It’s a cool place that hosts many different speakers and even panels of people for discussions.
So here is my podcast recording. Give it a listen and determine whether our talk next week would be of benefit to you. If you think you’d like to come here myself and another professional talk about speech and reading, please RSVP to the event here!
I hope to see you there!
